DMR Contact Manager is a custom-designed software package designed for use with Connect Systems CS700/CS701 radios, as well as the Tytera MD-380/390/390GPS, AnyTone D858, Retevis RT3, and similar radios that use the RDT file format, and Connect Systems CS750/751, CS800/801, and others that use the RDB file format. These units are MOTOTRBO-compatible DMR mobile radios suitable for both commercial and amateur radio applications.

Contact Manager makes it easy to maintain channel, zone, contact and call group information in these radios. It is fully compatible with the DMR-MARC database system and allows instant codeplug updates from a wide variety of sources.

The latest Contact Manager release supports channel editing, importing, and exporting, as well as zone and scan list management for RDT and RDB files. It's now a snap to move channels and zones between codeplugs - - and with Contact Manager's built-in IntelliPaste functionality, associated contact information is always imported right along with channels whenever it's needed - - so that your imported channels work right the first time!

What is CPSProgrammer?
DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) is a digital voice (DV) modulation scheme, which becomes more and more popular in amateur radio (ham radio). To be able to use the radio transceivers, all frequencies (channels) used must be entered as a „memory channel“ into the so called codeplug (CP). There is a huge number of local radio repeaters, as well as analogue FM repeaters and simplex frequencies, which all have to be entered into the CP by typing it manually into a programming software (CPS). Only in Germany we currently have about 270 DMR repeater, which expand to about 600 channels (2 timeslots + many mixed mode FM) only for DMR.

Features and Limitations

CPSProgrammer is an automatic programming (programming robot) of the channel information of a CPS. CPSProgrammer reads all input-information from a CSV file. CPSProgrammer is designed to interact with the existing vendor-provided CPS software. CPSProgrammer does not read or write codeplug-files (.rdt, .rcd, .rcdx).  The vendor's CPS software must be running for CPSProgrammer to update the codeplug that is open in vendor's CPS software (see picture above:  "Principle of the CPSProgrammer"). Does anyone know the way to un-install MD380 Tools from an MD 390? It has done terrible things to my radio.

I recently found that using the md380tools from Travis Goodspeed I was able to apply a more feature-full firmware and found instructions on how to reset the password.
The reset hasn't worked for me.

I unfortunately still have issues.
After reading some more, the new firmware allows one to update the DMR ID without needing to program it.

Also, I found the best results by using a raspberry pi with the md380tools.

It can happen that a “PC Programming Password”, set on the Tytera MD-380/Retevis RT-3 “CPS” programming software, is lost or forgotten. If that happens, there is no way to program the radio from your PC ever again.
However, there is a simple workaround:

1.) install the md380tools by Travis Goodspeed KK4VCZ; follow carefully his instructions for installation;
2.) issue the following commands:

./md380-dfu read mycodeplug.img
printf '\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF' | dd conv=notrunc of=mycodeplug.img bs=1 seek=$((0x20a0))
./md380-dfu write mycodeplug.img

3.) when done, turn off the radio and back on again;
4.) your PC programming password is now empty;

Scanning a 4 channel Capacity Plus system with a MD-380. This was with the experimental software that allows the radio to listen to any DMR traffic heard. I have set up one channel as a scan channel.

Best starter DMR radio?

Looking at a few different options you could choose from as a first DMR radio. There are also the Hytera and the CS-750 radios which are meant to be good, but I didn't include them in this video because I don't have any personal experience of them.

Project 25 (P25 or APCO-25) is a suite of standards for digital radio communications for use by federal, state/ province and local. P25-compliant systems are being increasingly adopted and deployed. Radios and as my County uses P25 for the PD, Fire and EMS dispatch, Is the MD-380 able to monitor a P25 System, and can you program the talkgroups in to hear Dispatch etc.

[TYT-TYTERA] MD-380 Firmware Hacked

Just read this on hackaday. 

Every once in a great while, a piece of radio gear catches the attention of a prolific hardware guru and is reverse engineered. A few years ago, it was the RTL-SDR, and since then, software defined radios became the next big thing. Last weekend at Shmoocon, [Travis Goodspeed] presented his reverse engineering of the Tytera MD380 digital handheld radio. The hack has since been published in PoC||GTFO 0x10 (56MB PDF, mirrored) with all the gory details that turn a $140 radio into the first hardware scanner for digital mobile radio.

The Tytera MD380 is a fairly basic radio with two main chips: an STM32F405 with a megabyte of Flash and 192k of RAM, and an HR C5000 baseband.
The STM32 has both JTAG and a ROM bootloader, but both of these are protected by the Readout Device Protection (RDP). Getting around the RDP is the very definition of a jailbreak, and thanks to a few forgetful or lazy Chinese engineers, it is most certainly possible.
