TYT MD380 2.30 firmware issues

For those users who've had problems with firmware 2.030, TYT has contacted me and said that they will be issuing another firmware update "soon." Given that there are a few issues with 2.030, I'd recommend holding off on loading 2.030 and wait for the next update.

There have been some problems with the 2.30 firmware. Some of these problems are:

1 - The battery indicator always shows that the battery is fully charged

2 - If you use the radio menu to view the scan list, the radio will reboot

Tytera has acknowledged these problems and promises that an updated firmware that fixes these problems will be available soon.

The only issues that I am having with firmware 2.30 is an unreliable battery meter and the fact that the radio reboots when I try to view the scan list. I can live with both these issues and will leave 2.30 installed until a fix comes out.

MD-380 .rdt file Memory Map

[csidmr] .rdt file memory map
I have been writing the Zone Manager program and as a consequence had to re-created the memory map notes. I have now uploaded them to the yahoo.com user group [csidmr] files area.
This is far from a complete document. Only parts of the memory map have been decoded. But it should prove a starting point for anyone wanting to investigate further.
The format is valid for the original CS700 firmware and the MD380 firmware. It almost certainly is not correct for the CS700A or CS750.
I am not able to answer questions on this document. If you don't understand it then you probably shouldn't be playing about with .rdt files. There is a risk of bricking your radio if you do.

Contact lists for uploading to MD380

Here is a source, supposedly updated daily, with all DMR contacts sorted by nation and state.

The foxhollow server downloads & processes the nightly full database from the DMR-MARC website.  If you know of someone that got a new ID today, the foxhollow download ZIP file will have that new ID by tomorrow morning.

I currently create the files in CS700/MD380 CSV format as well as CS750 XLSX format.  If another type of file is needed, send me a message and I'll add it to the daily dumps.

[TYT-TYTERA] MD 380 slow scan

The shield is the encryption mode identifier, another that popped up was the speaker with an 'x', that means you muted all the system tones.

The scanning issue I circumvented by restructuring to use rxgroups for all traffic on the slot I'm on, so I have an rx group list for Slot1 and Slot2 with all TGs for each, each channel has the group Slot1 or Slot2 as appropriate.  Then my scan list (which corresponds with the zone based on the channel scan group assignments I have) covers "all" but being slow doesn't matter as much as the group scan overlays it seems.

TYT MD380 Firmware 2.32 Cps1.30

TYT MD380 Firmware 2.32  Cps1.30
Firmware 2.32 /Cps1.30 didn't solve the botom button preselection of "zone" . I programmed upper buton with scan ON/OFF : working fijne and lower one with zone selection : no action

We were having an issue and were told that it was because we used the old version of the programming software with the new firmware. Clearing the transceiver, reloading the firmware and reloading your code plug using the corresponding version of the programming software did the trick.

We programmed our units with the upper button for Power and Scan the lower for Monitor and Zone. All working fine.

MD-380 "Low" pwr. RF output too low

A friend of mine and I have found that our MD-380 HT's have in the "Low" RF output power setting ONLY 0.5 watt.
According to the manual it should be 1 watt.

Has anyone else found, using a FM signal on 440 MHz, the same?

My Firmware ver.: D002.030    CP ver.: V01.30
S/N 1505A54xxx

Could this RF output  power be corrected in the firmware?

Create a quick plug for the TYT MD-380

We have found a way to quickly create a code plug for the new DMR postage TYT of the MD-780. It is based on the code plug for the CS700 Dick, PH0DV. You kuntt this free Hex Editor here to download.

Open TYT MD380 code plug with the Hex Editor with extension xxxxx.rdt

Select RULE 0 T / M 120 and copy it (see picture)

Port Codeplug Tytera (TYT) MD-380 to CS-700

The Tytera (TYT) MD-380 software is close to the CS-700 software, except it will not read the CS-700 codeplug, and vice versa.  You can hex edit it, and make it work. When the actual radio shows up, I'll let you know.

The software is NOT identical. They are close, and based on the same code, but they are not identical.  The MD380 has features that the CS700 does not, so the software is different.

The scan on the MD380 is a bit slow, but the nuisance delete does work. And it scan multiple channels.

But if you're looking for scanner speed, you'll be disappointed. The receiver on the MD380 is quit good.

HEX Editor Codeplug CS700 converted to MD380

I have a codeplug for a CS700 that I have converted to MD380 (Since that is what I own). The issue I have is that when I load it into the CPS, it shows that its for a VHF radio, when it is actually UHF. I am unable to change this without clearing all the programming. I know that with hex editor you can fix the value to make sure it displays as UHF. Can anyone help me with this?

The following hex compare shows the differences and locations in the files. I haven't actually tried manipulating these values, but I'm pretty sure that CPS is reading and writing to these locations:

E:\temp>fc /b vhf.rdt uhf.rdt
Comparing files vhf.rdt and UHF.RDT

We have put together some pretty informative videos on the ever so popular MD-380 radios. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks for taking a look!

Tytera MD-380 v. CS-700

Why in the world would you recommend the CS700 over the MD380? The MD380 already offers more features than the CS700 and it's only been out for two months. CSI promised front panel programming for the CS700 in January 2014. Still not here. The MD380 does it out of the box. Nuisance delete just started working on the CS700, only 18 months after the feature was supposed to be fixed. I works now on the MD380. The MD380 has a battery eliminator available right now. CSI hasn't even contemplated offering a battery eliminator for the CS700. The MD380 uses a standard female SMA connector on the radio, so that hams can use any number of the thousands of SMA antennas available. The CS700 uses a male SMA on the radio, which is also a standard, just not for amateur radios.

Tytera TYT MD-380 import contacts - update contact list

Can Someone tell me how to go to the DMR Database (www.DMR-MARC.net) and import contacts to my radio TYT MD380 Or upload a file that I can Import into my Tytera TYT MD-380

As to your question, you can go to Index of /DMR/Contacts
http://www.foxhollow.ca/DMR/Contacts/

Summary of files containing DMR IDs and Callsigns grouped by Country
http://www.foxhollow.ca/DMR/Contacts/ALL-DMR-Contacts-README.TXT

The CS700 files are saved as .CSV for easy import using the G4EML Contact Manager The CS750 files are saved as .XLSX as required by the CPS software *The MD380 uses the same files as the CS700 This file is updated daily and can be downloaded from: http://www.foxhollow.ca/DMR/Contacts/ALL-DMR-Contacts.ZIP

to get the ZIP file labeled ALL-DMR-Contacts.ZIP . Inside is a CS750 file broken down by state and area, as well as all the countries (and an entire US/ Canada) file. Here is the "unfortunately" part of the message- we are waiting for an update that will allow the software to import over 1000 contacts into your CPS CSI software to download to the radio. I assume you don't want to manually enter every contact, which is somewhere near 9000 contacts right now. The site is updating daily. The bottom line, you can probably import your home state, but the whole US is out of the question right now for importing until we get our software update, which we were told was happening very soon. It was not in the last update from 7-31.
